Foundation Earth has been nominated for this year’s Earthshot Prize, one of the most prestigious environmental prizes in the world. The nomination marks a huge moment of pride for us, as we pursue our mission to build food systems that don’t destroy the planet.

Launched by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in October 2020, the Earthshot Prize was designed to help recognise and scale solutions that have a positive environmental impact and will help repair the Earth. Each year five “Earthshots” are awarded to breakthrough initiatives tackling major challenges of this decade in the following areas:

  • Protect and restore nature
  • Clean our air
  • Revive our oceans
  • Build a waste-free world
  • Fix our climate

Foundation Earth was nominated by Arup, a multinational professional services organisation dedicated to sustainable development. In a world where contradicting information is spreading on the environmental friendliness of food products, Arup recognised the need for a democratic and holistic scoring system that helps consumers make informed choices, at the same time holding industry accountable for their impacts.

“It’s a great achievement for us to be selected among so many other inspirational organisations and projects. The Earthshot Prize offers an incredible platform to support and scale up climate-positive actions, and we are grateful to see ecolabelling placed as a solution to some of the key challenges our planet faces,” says Laura Nolan, Head of Communications and Engagement at Foundation Earth.

This year alone over 1000 solutions were named by the official 345 Earthshot nominators (including Arup), across 80 countries. Winners will be announced in December 2022 in Boston, where the 15 finalists will be celebrated for their contributions to creating a more sustainable world for us all.
